In New York State political news, the Independence Party of Monroe County asked for the resignation of Rafael Colon from his chairman’s post. He agreed to the request, and has resigned. The Executive Committee of the County party asked for the resignation of Colon and his wife after reports surfaced that Jack Davis, the Democratic Congressional candidate for the 26th District, paid Blanca Colon $5,000 in consulting fees. On the surface one might say, “So what.” But, here’s the catch, According to Davis’ campaign manager, the goal of the payments had nothing to do with consulting. Instead, he readily admits that the Democratic candidate made the $5,000 payment with the sole goal of building relationships with Independence Party members.
In other words, mulit-millionaire Democratic candidate Jack Davis from the Rochester, New York area, readily admits he’s looking to buy votes.
This is an amazing story on many levels. First off, we have a multi-millionaire, Jack Davis, once again trying to buy his way into Congress. I’ve long said one of the major problems with politics these days revolves around the fact that we no longer truly have a common-man candidate. Instead, if you don’t have millions and millions of dollars, your hope of winning election are next to nil. Secondly, we have a multi-millionaire publicly saying he’s buying votes! Wait a minute…how can this be? Making matters even worse, this isn’t the first time the Democratic candidate Jack Davis has admitted to readily buying votes. That’s right, you did read that last line correctly. Jack Davis has readily admitted before that he’s trying to buy votes.
A few weeks ago in another publicity stunt with the sole intent of buying votes, Jack Davis had a gas station roll their prices back to what gas cost in the year 2000. Then, for one afternoon only, customers filled up their tanks with the 8 year old gas price. The stunt of course cost Davis thousands of dollars as he made up the difference in cost with the gas station. Once again, when someone said, “You’re just buying votes.” Jack Davis said, “That’s right. I am buying votes.”
Again, I don’t know what’s worse. The fact that he’s openly buying votes, or the fact that he readily admits that he’s buying votes. If this isn’t an example of what’s wrong with the whole political process these days, I don’t know what is.
Just my two cents,
Dr. Rus
