Holy Market Meltdown Batman!

It’s time for the Raging Right and the Looney Left To Take A Chill Pill

We find ourselves in the midst of, as Robin might say, a market meltdown. Can the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder save us?

Is anyone else getting tired of all the fear-mongering going on these days? Every time we turn around we’re hearing bad news about the financial situation of not only the United States, but even the world money market. Personally, when I hear a headline declaring — We lost One Trillion Dollars In One Day — I have to laugh. We did not lose one trillion dollars. It’s all a paper shuffle. Reality is, that money doesn’t exist. The rich on Wall Street say it exists, but it’s really nothing more than a paper shuffle.

It’s time to stop the fear-mongering and take a deep breath. Then, as we all step back from the white-noise on the airwaves about what’s going on, maybe we’ll realize it’s not as bad as it sounds. I’m not saying we need to live in some kind of a fantasy world ignoring the fact that financial times are tight. But, I am saying we need to refocus on what’s really going on here and realize the government’s idea of simply printing more money, will not fix the problem.

In the words of Jack Nicholson’s Joker from the 1989 Batman movie…

NASCAR Thots: Kansas Race

The Chase is on! Race Three in Kansas…

I have to admit when NASCAR introduced the whole Chase for the Championship format a few years ago, I was not impressed. Not to say I’m one of those “stuck in the past type people,” but I just didn’t see anything wrong with the old point system. I couldn’t understand why NASCAR would want to tweak something that worked. As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t busted, don’t fix it.” But, the powers-to-be in the NASCAR head office hauler had some changes in mind. With 10 races left, the top 10, now the top 12, in the points would have a magic wand reset their points. Then, in somewhat of a play-off fashion, during the final 10 races of the season, they would race for the championship.

But, now I must admit the Chase format is certainly creating some very exciting racing, and yesterday was no exception. Coming up in this post I actually have three things I want to address;

  1. Cousin Carl’s Best Quote Of The Race
  2. Kyle “Cry-Baby” Busch Proves Why He’s NOT Championship Material
  3. Remembering An Acting/Racing Icon

Accidental Governor At It Again

I’ve blogged extensively about New York State’s ‘accidental’ Governor, David Paterson. It appears he likes to make rules for others, while ignoring them for himself. At times it appears he’s making decisions in a bubble, or at least behind closed doors in either the Governor’s mansion or the Governor’s office. First he quickly moves on a budget after inheriting the office because his predecessor liked high priced call girls. In an effort to gain favor with New York State voters, he made a knee jerk reaction and passed something he didn’t have all the details on. Now, when the budget doesn’t balance, he decides to make across the board cuts.

Then, showing his ignorance of the New York State Constitution, the ‘accidental’ Governor Paterson decides to issue an edict from his office mandating that all governmental agencies and counties must start paying benefits to same-sex couples. Not only does this break the Constitution of New York State, which says “marriage is between a man and a woman”, but it also breaks the bank for many counties who are already over-mandated. The so-called mandated programs cost counties millions of dollars each year.

Now, the latest blunder by the ‘accidental’ Governor comes in the form of approving the hiring of a friend of his to a government agency. In the midst a budget crunch, and in the midst of calling for a “hiring freeze,” Governor Paterson apparently figures his “hiring freeze” words apply to everyone else, but not him.

Teens Killing Teens

Preparing for the morning news run today two headlines jumped off the page at me;

  • Teen Gets Maximum for 2007 Shooting
  • 15 Year Old Shot and Killed

The headlines are about teens in Rochester, New York. I find it somewhat ironic that the same day two stories involve violent crimes involving teens in the City of Rochester, the latest FBI Crime Statistics report for 2006-07 says the following about New York State;

  • Crime in Monroe County, which is where Rochester is located, declined by 9.3%. That’s more than two times greater than the statewide drop of 3.7%
  • New York has become the fourth safest state in the nation and the safest large state in the country
  • New York has had a reduction in overall crime for 17 consecutive years.

The numbers may say crime is in decline, but with what I cover day in and day out, I’d like to find out exactly how the FBI are arriving at those numbers. Especially in Rochester where it seems violent crime is up. Not only does violent crime seem to be up, but it also seems like teens killing teens crime is up.

Obama Says No To Lohan

What in the world is Lindsey Lohan thinking…

Earlier this week the fallen teen star Lindsey Lohan said her mother might have a lot to worry about, but at least she doesn’t have to worry about her “coming home pregnant.” She made the comment while discussing why Governor Sarah Palin is not a good candidate for the White House. Of course it’s no secret that Lohan is a Democrat with little to no love for the Republican’s. But then again, very few people have any love left for Lohan these days. She’s turned into a Hollywood train wreck who’s now experimenting with the lesbian lifestyle. Could it be she went gay because guys stopped returning her calls?

In the latest twist of political news in the lack-luster-Lohan-life, Senator Barack Obama is not returning her calls either!

Rich Bailed Out By Gov’t Again!

Only in America!

Once again the government has stepped in to bail out the rich. Last week they bailed out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac after investors refused to step up to the plate and help the companies. I addressed that in a post entitled The Government Owns Your House. Now, in the latest financial news, the government has stepped in to bail out an insurance company. That’s right folks! Once again the government is spending your money to bail out the rich simply because the rich refuse to lose any of their ill-gotten gain dollars. So, not only does the government own your house, but now the government also owns 80 percent of the company that insures that house! Of course as a spin out of the insurance company, the government also has a stake in your car, your motor home, and whatever else you might have insured through AIG.

When will this madness stop?

Ad Time For Super Bowl Almost Gone

The NFL season has just started, with a number of surprises. And, believe it or not, but time is also running out to buy advertising space for Super Bowl XLIII.

That’s right, the famously high-priced Super Bowl commercial airtime is almost sold out already for the end of the season game, as the season just gets underway. Of course there’s much hype about how the landscape of the NFL changed over the weekend with the Tom Brady injury. On top of that, the New York Jets are winning with their latest acquisition of the retired Brett Favre. The on again, off again quarterback career of Favre transitioned to the Jets this year after his former employer got tired of a quarterback, who in my opinion, is nothing more than a cry baby who doesn’t really know what he wants to do. Then there’s the energized Buffalo Bills team. Here’s a franchise that’s been the Super Bowl Bridesmaid many times, but never the bride. Could this be the year for a Jets and Bills Super Bowl run?

Big Oil Sticks It To Us Again

If you don’t believe OPEC and Big Oil are in bed setting gas prices, maybe now it’s time to wake up and smell the roses.

Once again we see the fact that OPEC and Big Oil are responsible for price fixing and price gouging. The amazing thing is some analysts are actually trying to blame us, the consumer for what’s going on. I just heard a CNN news story trying to explain why OPEC has decided to cut oil production. The so-called expert said — “No one educated the consumers when it came to conservation. Consumers were told to cut back which would effect gas prices. But, since consumers cut back, OPEC now has to cut back on oil production.”

Say what!? Do these people really think we the consumer are that stupid?

Give me a break. First off, the so-called expert is, in the words of Bill O’Reilly, a pinhead! Where do they dig these guys up from? I have a feeling he could very well be in the pocket of OPEC and Big Oil. To say it’s the consumers fault is stupid, and insulting. Secondly, CNN should be embarrassed for even airing the guys comments. Come on CNN, you should be better than that. Why would you suggest the consumer is stupid? Are you suggesting your listeners are stupid and will actually buy that trash?

The Government Owns Your House

Frank Burns in the long running TV series M*A*S*H was always on the lookout for the threat of the communist red menace. Of course Frank saw red under every tent flap. He was always on the lookout, defending the United States of American against the red menace in Korea. I remember one show where a very tired Hawkeye asked Frank what the Communists wanted. Frank’s response went something like this. “They want everything we have. They even want our toilets.” Hawkeye then takes it upon himself to send them the Officers bathroom.

While we all laugh at the wonderful antics of the M*A*S*H cast in endless reruns, I do have a question - Why are we all sleeping while socialism, which is the basis of communism, quietly creeps into the fabric of the United States?

No, I’m not a conspiracy theorists finding threats under every tent flap. However, when you look at what some political leaders want to do with their control in our lives, it’s nothing more than communism. Let me point out I’m not talking about listening for terrorist phone calls. No, I’m talking about things like socializing health care and having the government pay for our everyday needs.

And now, as announced over the weekend, the government now owns your house. How in the world did this one slip under the radar? How in the world can we believe the pundits telling us this is for our own good? Hello…is there anyone listening to what’s really going on here?

If you flew by the above sentence, let me state it again — If you are a homeowner, the government may very well own your house today!

New York State Stupidity…Again

It is no secret that we find ourselves in the midst of tough economic times in the United States. Unemployment rates are up and down like a toilet seat in a co-ed bathroom. Many people, especially unions, are up in arms because of outsourcing. More and more we see jobs being shipped overseas. Companies shut down, and move across a border, or overseas, where labor is cheaper. State after state after state offer various incentive packages and tax breaks to companies who decide to stay put, or expand. Millions of dollars are available for some companies as long as they’re willing to expand and employ local people.

Stack on top of this the fact that car manufacturers in the United States are cutting back and laying workers off as car sales plummet. The reason for falling car sales…high gas prices. It’s hard to believe we get excited when gas prices dip below $4 a gallon. One of the main Presidential election platforms touts the fact that we in the United States must get off our dependency on foreign oil. The nation is held captive by both big oil, and foreign oil when it comes to high gas prices. It’s also amazing to think that the U.S., while we’re running billions of dollars in the red, continues to hand out money to foreign countries like it’s nothing more than Monopoly money. And, on top of that, we export a large amount of our own oil to other countries!

But, when it comes to stupidity, I think New York State holds the corner on the market for that label. Gas prices are already sky high in New York State, well above the national average, because of high taxes. Yes, politicians in New York State recognize this as an issue, but many in Albany refuse to budge and do anything about it. Some New York State politicians are doing their best to stop the outsourcing of jobs, but is it enough. It’s no secret that young people leave the State simply because of lack of jobs, and high taxes.

Now, just when you thought outsourcing in New York State could get no worse, New York State regulators have decided to outsource electricity to Spain! That’s right folks, if everything goes through, instead of paying the utility bill in U.S. dollars, New Yorkers may soon find themselves using Pesos.
