Programming To Snooze By

ABC ‘Pushing Daisies’ While Others Broadcast Political Ad

If you can’t sleep tonight, just tune into the Obama Infomercial…
It’s sure to be a snoozer!

Senator Barack Obama, who thinks he knows how to manage money, has decided to throw a bunch of money around once again on senseless TV advertising. However, it appears ABC has decided a couple things when it comes to taking the money;

  1. They don’t need the money so they’re not airing the ad.
  2. Their Wednesday night line up is already hurting and they didn’t want to hurt it anymore by airing a 30 minute Senator Obama infomercial.

If you don’t want to snooze to Obama tonight, ABC will snooze you with their already struggling Wednesday line up of an hour long Pushing Daisies, followed by episodes of Private Practice and Dirty, Sexy Money.

Who’s Your Fav Movie Prez?

We are on the home stretch in what seems like a never-ending-presidential campaign. In what’s been like a bad dream at times, could it be all the political silliness will finally come to an end? We can only hope! Of course with just one week to go until election day, the candidates our blazing the campaign trail all in hopes of grabbing a few last minute votes come November 4.

Who will be the winner?

The self-appointed media gods have already named Senator Obama as the next President of the United States. Apparently he’s taking the media cue rather seriously as he’s already started construction of his massive stage where he plans to make his acceptance speech. Talk about putting the cart before the horse! That’s just silly. Of course on the other side of the aisle, Senator McCain keeps pointing out that the polls are very close, and really too hard to call. At one rally over the weekend the Senator proclaimed, “Call me crazy, but I like to determine the winner of these things the old-fashioned way — by letting the voters decide on Election Day.”

Personally, I’m very tired of all the political craziness. While I know we can’t ignore it, there simply comes a point when we go into political overload. With that in mind, as we find ourselves wondering who the next President will be, lets take a few minutes to discuss movie Presidents.

Through the years there have been many movie Presidents. But, if you could chose one to be a real life President, who would you pick?

In Search of Responsible Broadcasting Pt. 3

Media Driven Frenzy

H.G. Wells — War of the Worlds — The Possible First Media Driven Frenzy

In 1896, H.G. Wells released his science fiction novel describing an invasion of England by aliens from Mars. This sci-fi classic of course went on to inspire a number of movies, radio dramas, comic book adaptations and even a TV series based on the story. Just last year the TV series Cold Case worked a story line about an unsolved murder that took place during the famed 1938 radio broadcast of the story. Of course that broadcast caused mass hysteria as many believed what they were hearing on the radio, was actually taking place.

Vote Early…Vote Often

Tuesday, November 4 Is Election Day!

By this point in the process many people are simply breathing a sigh of relief that this whole political season will finally be behind us. It seems we’ve been in a Presidential campaign mode for the past four years. As soon as President Bush took the oath of office for his final four year term, the Democrats especially, started talking about who they’re next candidate would be for President. Never before in the history of the Office of President has a President been labeled a lame duck as soon as his final term started.

But, that’s exactly what happened.

Maybe it’s time to limit the length of political campaigns to just a few months before the election. By limiting when the campaign season begins, this would accomplish a few things in the whole political arena;

  • It would limit the amount of money spent on any given campaign. The outlandish spending of candidates on ad campaigns needs to be reigned in.
  • This would open up the possibility for regular people to run for office instead of just professional politicians with big bucks.
  • It would end the non-stop speculation and poll taking that becomes silly. Does anyone really believe what the polls say anyway?
  • Last but certainly not least, it would simply put an end to the noise and screaming so evident in the whole political process these days.

NASCAR Bias?

The 2008 NASCAR Chase For The Championship Is Winding Down!

With just four races left, Jimmie Johnson is taking what appears to be a commanding lead over the rest of the field. He extended his winning streak again yesterday with a win in Martinsville. He’s now heading into the home stretch of the Chase, with just four races left. If last year is any indication of what this year will be like, it appears Jimmie Johnson is heading for his third straight championship as he won the last four races of the season last year.

In Search of Responsible Broadcasting Pt. 2

Spin Doctor Pundits

We’re continuing our search for responsible broadcasting.

The subject seems amplified as we find ourselves in the midst of a political season. The closer we get to election day, it seems the more noise we have on the airwaves. It doesn’t matter if it’s radio or TV, the so-called experts, or pundits, are everywhere. Many attempt to tell us they’re not biased. But, to anyone who listens on a regular basis, and if you’re honest with yourself, you soon discover some of these pundits flip flop more than they accused John Kerry of flip flopping. I’m amazed at the number of people who consider these pundits the last word on what’s going on in the nation.

But it’s time to wake up. If you’re trying to find balanced coverage of what’s taking place these days, it’s very hard. For those who are looking for balance there are times where we simply throw our hands up in despair.

We’re surrounded by crazies to the right and loons on the left!

In Search of Responsible Broadcasting Pt.1

Whatever happened to responsible broadcasting?

There was a time when broadcasters were looked up to. A time when everyone wanted to meet the radio announcer or TV personality. A time when you knew they were truly giving you, the listener, information you could use. Unbiased information with no agenda of swaying you one way or another. I remember meeting my first radio announcer. It was with a sense of awe and intrigue as I suddenly watched the voice behind the microphone, spinning the tunes and talking during a gas station remote. The guy I listened to playing the Top 40 Rock n Roll every night, suddenly came to life right before my eyes.

The first announcer I saw inspired me to become an announcer myself. The second announcer I met, inspired me to do a good job, and have fun while doing it.

Spoiled Athletes Behaving Badly

The Poster Boy For NFL Bad Behavior

Adam “Pacman” Jones

Take a close look at the NFL promotional picture above. It could double for his mug shot too. This guy is an embarrassment at so many levels. He’s a joke when it comes to behavior, and he’s a joke when it comes to playing on the field too. He’s yet another example of a spoiled rotten, over paid and over indulging athlete who needs to be kicked out of the game for good.

Let’s be clear here…Pacman Jones is in no way related to this cute little Pacman…

Finances Turning Around

News bulletin…news bulletin! As heard on CNN this morning…

“The recent economy problems faced by the nation revolve around finances and money!”
So-Called Economist Specialist

Well there’s no big d’uh there! Imagine that, a financial fall on Wall Street revolving around money. Where did CNN dig this guy up? Sometimes I think news agencies grab anyone they can just to include a sound-bite inside a newscast. Give me a break guys, it’s time to start listening to what you’re doing before going live on the air with this silliness.

While it is indeed good news that Wall Street and the stock market had a rebound day yesterday, some were saying all along to just take a deep breath. Many people panicked, much of the panic was caused by the White House itself, and jumped out of the market. But, others took the advice of some calm thinking people, took a deep breath and waited for things to turn around. Knee jerk reactions to bad situations rarely do any good. In this case, for those who lost money, they will never regain it if they jumped out. But, for those who remained calm, they will make up some of what they lost.

With the turnaround in the markets, just in time for the Christmas spending season, Neiman Marcus has released his annual Christmas book of top dollar gifts! Now in its 82nd edition, the department store has announced the 2008 list of “must haves” for the upper crust of society this holiday season.

Economics 101

Economics 101 Class Is Now In Session

The National Debt Clock near Times Square, New York
Wednesday, October 8, 2008

In the midst of the financial tailspin we now find ourselves in, the National Debt Clock in New York City ran out of digits midweek to record the growing figure. As a temporary fix, the dollar sign was switched to a figure — the ‘1′ in the now over $10 trillion dollar national debt. The Durst Organization, which takes care of the sign, says it plans to update it next year by adding two digits.

That means the updated National Debt Clock will be capable of tracking debt up to a quadrillion dollars!

If that doesn’t scare you, I don’t know what will. I don’t even know what a trillion dollars is, let alone a quadrillion! The late Manhattan real estate developer Seymour Durst put the sign up in 1989. At that time his intent was to call attention to what was then a $2.7 trillion debt. Apparently those in positions of government leadership don’t care about the debt, nor did the sign catch their attention. If the sign caught their attention, we should now be debt free!

With this in mind, while I’ve said it before, I will say it again, I am NOT an economist, but I can certainly figure this out.

So listen up governmental leaders…
