NASCAR Bias?
The 2008 NASCAR Chase For The Championship Is Winding Down!
With just four races left, Jimmie Johnson is taking what appears to be a commanding lead over the rest of the field. He extended his winning streak again yesterday with a win in Martinsville. He’s now heading into the home stretch of the Chase, with just four races left. If last year is any indication of what this year will be like, it appears Jimmie Johnson is heading for his third straight championship as he won the last four races of the season last year.
But where is Kyle Busch?
NASCAR sweetheart and corporate appointed champion Kyle Busch has all but disappeared from the scene. But what I find interesting is how the announcers are still pulling for him. They’re shocked when he has a bad day and spend time wondering what’s going on. Reality is this, Kyle Busch caved under the pressure and he’s not mature enough to carry himself as a professional when things are going bad. When the going gets tough, Kyle Busch caved.
I also find it amazing at how the announcers are pretty much ignoring what Jimmie Johnson is doing. He struggled at the beginning of the season. He, along with crew chief Chad Knaus readily admitted they missed it on many levels. They were missing set ups, they were missing communication, and they simply were not winning races.
But through it all, the 48 team stayed positive.
Now, as the end of the season quickly approaches, Jimmie Johnson is poised and ready to do what only one other person in the history of NASCAR has done. Win three championship titles in a row. The King Richard Petty didn’t do that, nor did the late Dale Earnhardt. Cale Yarborough is the only other driver to win three championship titles in a row. The big story here is the fact that Jimmie Johnson is on his way to the record books in a number of different of ways. But, what are the NASCAR announcers concerned about — Where’s their star-boy-Kyle Busch?
Just my two cents,
