Who’s Your Fav Movie Prez?

We are on the home stretch in what seems like a never-ending-presidential campaign. In what’s been like a bad dream at times, could it be all the political silliness will finally come to an end? We can only hope! Of course with just one week to go until election day, the candidates our blazing the campaign trail all in hopes of grabbing a few last minute votes come November 4.

Who will be the winner?

The self-appointed media gods have already named Senator Obama as the next President of the United States. Apparently he’s taking the media cue rather seriously as he’s already started construction of his massive stage where he plans to make his acceptance speech. Talk about putting the cart before the horse! That’s just silly. Of course on the other side of the aisle, Senator McCain keeps pointing out that the polls are very close, and really too hard to call. At one rally over the weekend the Senator proclaimed, “Call me crazy, but I like to determine the winner of these things the old-fashioned way — by letting the voters decide on Election Day.”

Personally, I’m very tired of all the political craziness. While I know we can’t ignore it, there simply comes a point when we go into political overload. With that in mind, as we find ourselves wondering who the next President will be, lets take a few minutes to discuss movie Presidents.

Through the years there have been many movie Presidents. But, if you could chose one to be a real life President, who would you pick?

Harrison Ford for President!

And the winner is — Harrison Ford.

Just in time for Election Day, a new poll reveals that Harrison Ford leads the Presidential race by a significant margin. In this case, the race is a MovieFone poll of the top fictional movie Presidents people would most like to see lead the United States. Ford, who won 24 percent of the vote, played a President fending off hijackers in the 1997 movie Air Force One. Morgan Freeman, whose presidential character in 1998’s Deep Impact faced the prospect of a comet colliding with Earth, was the runner-up, with 16 percent of the vote.

MovieFone collected their polling information over the course of a month, gathering 1.1 million votes. When the votes were all tallied, here’s the ten that rose to the top.

  1. Harrison Ford - Air Force One – 1997
  2. Morgan Freeman – Deep Impact – 1998
  3. Michael Douglas – The American President - 1995
  4. Bill Pullman – Independence Day – 1996
  5. Kevin Kline – Dave – 1993
  6. Dennis Quaid – American Dreamz – 2006
  7. Bruce Greenwood - National Treasure: Book of Secrets – 2003
  8. James Cromwell – The Sum of All Fears – 2002
  9. Jack Nicholson – Mars Attacks – 1996
  10. Jeff Bridges – The Contender – 2000

Not only is that a fun list to look at, it also provides a great list of movies too. I would like to add one more to the list. Robin Williams did a great job of pointing out that the court-jester should always remain as the court-jester and not aspire for White House, in Man of the Year.

So, if you’re tired of all the political rhetoric, double-speak and gobbledygook, maybe it’s time to catch one of the presidential movies listed above.
