A Product of His Environment

Election Day is November 4!

Do you know who you will vote for?

Many are still undecided when it comes to pulling that lever on election day. Who will they vote for? Never before have we seen candidates spend the amount of money on advertising during their run for office as we have seen this time around. Never before have we seen the number of polls conducted and reported on as we have seen during this election cycle. Never before have we seen a media so biased as we have seen this time around.

But in the end, it will all be decided on November 4 as people head into the polling booth, pull the curtain, and pull the lever as they cast their vote. In the privacy of the polling booth, no pollster will pose a question, leading or otherwise. The individual casting the vote, does not need to worry anyone will know how the voted. Why? Because in the end, casting a vote is a personal action and many do not tell the truth when asked publicly whom they plan to vote for.

Of course during the entire Presidential campaign season we’ve heard many points of view concerning Senator McCain and Senator Obama. Sometimes the noise has been so loud, it’s hard to figure out where the truth is. Of course lay on top of that the fact that it’s hard to find unbiased coverage concerning the candidates, and this has been an even more confusing time. But here’s something we must remember when it comes to anyone running for office, and especially when considering all the information emerging concerning Senator Obama…

He is a product of his environment.

What’s Wrong With A Marxist?

My thoughts on this topic all started from an email I received last week which in turn sent me to a blog entry entitled What’s Wrong With A Marxist? I found the entry very interesting. While the title is certainly tossed out there as an attention grabber, the content of the post seems well thought out. Overall the author, Bob Lonsberry, is right on target with many of his comments. I continually find it amazing at how people are starry-eyed about Senator Obama, but really have no idea what he’s all about. From a marketing standpoint, Obama has great handlers and he’s being packaged very well. But, this is also a sad statement on the world we live in. Earlier on this blog I made mention that we live in an American Idol Mindset World. People don’t seem to look for substance and depth anymore. Many times people are simply looking for, what in many cases, is “slick and sleazy.”

However, it does not end with the American Idol Mindset. Another aspect of society coming into play here is the fact that Senator Obama tends to find himself speaking too, and appealing to, another mindset of the day — The Victim Mindset. Many people do not want to take responsibility for their actions, or in-actions. As a result, they think they’re always the victim. This is one reason why Obama’s message of hope gained traction early on. If you have a Victim Mindset which many times means you feel powerless, such a mindset also leads one to think they deserve everything to be given to them by someone else. This really turns into a vicious circle. Such a mindset also links closely with the slippery slope of lack of morality we find ourselves living in too. In a world where we find situation ethics rampant, it’s easy to say the situation determines my action, or reaction.

A number of years ago a friend of mine wrote a poem entitled You Are Where You Are, Because That’s Where You Want to Be. Of course many will quickly say; But what about something tragic happening to a person? Yes, yes, yes. I know all about that. However, reality is, tragic events are really few and far between. Most people are happy to be mediocre, instead of striving for excellence. I talk about this with our kids all the time. I’m always reminding them of who they are. They do not have to dress down just to fit some kind of teen culture. Instead, they need to raise the bar and dress to impress at all times. The cream truly does rise to the top. But, most are happy with sitting in the middle or the bottom, saying give me, give me.

We Are All Products Of Our Environment

Some will quickly disagree with my thoughts about the American Idol and Victim Mindset world we now live in. However, I would quickly add the reason screamers disagree revolves around the fact they may well be trapped inside one of those mindsets. We are all products of our environment. We react and say things as a result of what we’ve learned, how we’ve been raised, or what we’ve experienced. Our education, or lack of education, determines our responses as well. A man of great wisdom once wrote, “I don’t want you to be ignorant of these things.” When Paul wrote those words to the Ephesians, he was not calling them stupid. He was merely pointing out that he had some information and knowledge about a certain situation that they didn’t have. Ignorant was not considered a bad word. It was simply a word describing ones lack of knowledge about a topic or situation.

With that in mind, now lets come back into the current Presidential election campaign we find ourselves in. Some call Senator McCain a war-monger, while others say Senator Obama is a Marxist and socialist. Is Obama really a Marxist? He of course denies that label. However, we do know this, Senator Obama is a product of his environment. He has socialist and Marxist ideas because that’s what he’s studied. Now, link that with the fact that we live in a society of people raised without God. As a result we now have people who have no idea, or are ignorant of the fact that what he’s saying strays far and wide from what the country was founded on.

While I understand what Lonsberry is talking about in his blog post, I would bet many of his readers got lost because they have no clue who the people are he was talking about.

Just my two cents,
