Everyone Take A Deep Breathe

While going through the comic section of my Google Reader I came across a great Ziggy cartoon. The cartoon fit the theme of this post, so I decided to make an editors addition to the post tonight. If this is the second time you’ve come to this post, and you’ve already read it once, you can simply scroll down to the bottom of the post and check out the Ziggy cartoon. Believe me, it’s worth the look!

My Prescription For America…Take A Deep Breathe

I jokingly posted a morning greeting on my Twitter account today saying…
Good Morning Comrades!

I was amazed at the number of quick replies I received telling me to “shut up,” and “don’t say things like that because we don’t need it today!” “My oh my,” I thought to myself, but people seem a slight bit touchy today. So, I say it again, here’s my advice for the entire nation today – no matter what side of the aisle you find yourself on…

Take a deep breathe!

Believe it or not, but the world has not ended. The sun set, and the sun has indeed risen once again. The bottom line is this, we live in the United States of America, and throughout history there have been many ups and downs. Some good, some bad, but life always goes on. If you think the world has ended, look around you right now. Do you have one or two things to be thankful for? I’m sure you do.

No matter what you think, this is an historic day as the United States of America elected the first ever African American to the Office of President.

Will Everyone Everywhere Ever Be Happy?

Here’s another little reality check for the day after the 2008 election to keep in mind. Will any one person ever please everyone in the nation? Of course not. Sometimes it’s hard to please everyone in a single room. History has a way of repeating itself, over and over and over again. When a Republican is in the White House, there’s a portion of the nation screaming foul all the time. When a Democrat is in power, there’s another portion of the nation screaming foul.

Let’s not forget that when President Bush was elected to his second term the looney left declared things like;

  • Rape is now legal in the United States. (Cameron Diaz)
  • Barbara Streisand and others said they would all move out of the country if President Bush won the election. (Did anyone move?)

Of course those are just two examples of the outrageous statements made by the left during the last election.

This time around we have the raging right declaring;

  • Marxist!
  • Socialist!
  • The end of capitalism!
  • (And my personal favorite) — The end of free speech and conservative radio! Yeah right. That’s nothing more than conspiracy theory thinking. Take note, I’m not saying conservative radio is conspiracy theory thinking, but I am saying to declare that free speech and conservative radio will be banned is simply a raging right conspiracy theory line of thinking.

For this very reason, that’s why I’m saying “Take a deep breathe. Just breath in, and breath out.”

Now, take a look around you and find something to laugh about.

For example, here’s something to laugh about. Lets do some number crunching for a moment or two. In order to become President-Elect of the United States of America, Senator Barack Obama did the following;

  • Campaigned non-stop for two years.
  • Had every portion of his private life torn apart and exposed for all the world to see.
  • Spent what’s being estimated at $1 billion dollars, or more, to get elected!
  • After spending a record amount of money to get your vote, President-Elect Obama only won the popular vote by a narrow margin of about 1 million people! That’s really not a majority mandate from the nation.
  • And, to top it all off, he spent all that money and went through all the headaches to get there, for a job that only pays $400 thousand dollars a year!

Of course if he thought he had headaches before, I’m sure he ain’t seen nothing yet. Just wait until President-Elect Obama moves into the White House. That’s when he will discover just how fickle people really are.

In the end, lets all take a deep breathe. President-Elect Obama ran on a platform of hope. Lets see how the hope message spins out. It might also be a good idea to keep in mind the advice I’ve been giving since the weekend, when you come across people all uptight and worked up about the political lay of the land now — look them straight in the eye and say…

Peace be with you.

Just my two cents,
Dr. Rus

    Rus, I know I was one of those who kind of said “Shut Up” but in a nicer way. I think my direct response was “(shakes his head to that comment)” I don’t want to have that bitter negative tone. I didn’t vote for Obama but I have faith. Faith in so many things. Most importantly faith in our founding father. Obama will the 44th President. And despite what you think and how you feel and who you supported. We have had some bad presidents. Some history has seem to have forgotten about and we as a country have survived. This is historic. We will be fine. Congrats to Obama and his supporter we need to come together and hope that more people are at the table to have open discussions about the problems we as a country and a world face…

    Rus, Excellent blog. Now that I have taken a breath, I will speak. Before last night I was armed with a vote with which I could fight for what I felt was right. I wasn’t swallowing the conspiracy stuff. But I was seriously concerned about Obama’s stand on many of the issues. I used up my ammo last night. Today, what do I use fight for what I believe to be right ? I feel a little flat footed and vulnerable. My gun is empty!

    Opps, I need more oxygen!!!!

    Do I just sit back and pray? Do I retreat from the political fray to live out my faith in a smaller more personal world? Or do I search for five small stones in a creek bed and continue to do battle?

    Not bitter, not defeated, just a little out of breath and confused as to where to go from here.
