All Our Problems Will Magically Disappear

A New Day Has Dawned!

If you believe the media hype and the press releases, we should wake up this morning to lower taxes, no more foreclosures, and a job in every pot. We should now have access to free healthcare and even our bank loans cleared. After all, wasn’t that the platform President Obama ran on? He ran on a message of hope where all of our woes would magically disappear. The best part of it, we don’t have to do anything to be set free! Big Daddy Government is now in charge and Big Daddy Government will pay for everything and make sure all our needs are met.

So, what does your bank account look like today? What’s in your cupboard for food? Have you scheduled that long overdue surgery? What? You haven’t done that yet? Well why not? Could it be that you’re waiting for the political rhetoric to become a reality? If you are, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you may be waiting a long time.

While I wish President Obama all the best, now it’s time to see if he can put any traction to his political promises of change and hope.

In the meantime, everyone else needs to figure out how to continue moving forward in the face of tough economic times.

Surviving A Troubled Workforce

It’s no secret we’re currently find ourselves in an economic down-time. As a result, it’s also getting harder and harder to find work too. With that in mind, why would someone leave a job today? Staffing specialist Robert Half decided to find out. His company asked 150 Senior Executives with the country’s one thousand largest firms – Which of the following is most likely to cause good employees to quit their jobs?

Here are the results of the survey;

  • Unhappy with management – 35%
  • Limited opportunities for advancement – 33%
  • Lack of recognition – 13%
  • Inadequate salary and benefits – 13%
  • Other/don’t know – 5%
  • Bored with their job – 1%

Now that we know what makes a person leave a job, what about some workplace no-nos. More than 700 businessmen and women in 13 countries were asked the most offensive behaviors people engage in at work. The survey, conducted by Servcorp, looks like this;

  • Using swear words – 79%
  • People arriving at work and not acknowledging fellow workmates – 77%
  • Speaking loudly across the room – 66%
  • Not offering office guests a beverage – 51%
  • Taking calls on speakerphone – 47%

It’s been interesting to watch the events of the past few days unfold. There’s the left-love-fest for President Obama and there’s the raging-right-snipe-fest going on too. Somewhere we must find the balance. Somewhere we must find reality. Was everything peaches and creme with President Bush? Of course not. Will everything be peaches and creme with President Obama? Of course not. But, reality is this, as individuals step up and determine that hope and change starts within, then maybe we will see things improve around us.

Be positive and you will quickly see the environment around you become positive too.

Just my two cents,
