When The President Tries To Be A Comedian
President + Comedian = Bad News!

What is going on with the Office of President these days?
Now I’m of the belief that no matter who’s in office, we are supposed to honor our leaders and treat them with respect. While I have the utmost respect for the Office of President of the United States, I am beginning to wonder what exactly is going on in the office.
President Barack Obama ran for office on a platform of hope and change. While it certainly struck a chord with the nation, and put him into the White House, he doesn’t yet sound like a President. He seems to go back and forth between sounding like a candidate still running for office, and a giddy-school-boy with new toys. When he speaks about issues, he sounds like he’s still campaigning for the Office of President. When he talks about Air Force One, he talks about how cool it is to wear the special jacket. Come on Mr. President, it’s time to grow up in the job.
Then, on top of everything else, President Obama
decided to make an appearance on The Tonight Show!
In my opinion, this was a disaster just waiting to happen…
A Tonight Show Appearance For The President
In what some inside the Obama Administration have described as the equivalent to President Roosevelt’s Fireside Chats, President Obama appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Thursday night.
First off, if the administration is smart, they will stop comparing President Obama to past Presidents. Does he want to be known as a past President? Or does he want to be known as President Obama? Secondly, to say appearing on a comedy show is the same thing as the Fire Side chats is simply wrong. President Roosevelt was speaking to the nation about things of importance. He was not sitting in the hot seat at the mercy of a comedian talk show host.
That being said, President Obama should also take himself right out of the comedy business. He is the President of the United States, not a comedian. When he speaks off the cuff, the President gets into trouble. During the show he mentioned that he bowled a 129-point game in the White House bowling alley. After Jay Leno commented that was a pretty decent score, President Obama said it’s more like “the Special Olympics.” Of course everyone is now up in arms over his comment.
What’s really at issue here? Sure it was an off-the-cuff comment, but reality is this, the nation needs a President, not a comedian. It’s time he started acting like one.
Just my two cents,
